Jobs – income from jobs – make a world of difference in your standard of living. For many people living in developing countries there is little access to good paying jobs. This is true for much of the Haitian population. Many of the citizens of Haiti live in extreme poverty and children are sent to live in orphanages so that they will be properly cared for. The Apparent Project has stepped in with a goal to keep families together by creating good paying jobs.
Apparent Project trains artisans as jewelers, bookbinders, in sewing or other skills. After mastering the skills, each artisan establish his or her own businesses. It takes about 3 months for a new artisan to earn a sustainable income that their family can live on. In the meantime Apparent Project addresses nutritional, educational, and medical needs of the artisans.
Items made by artisans associated with Apparent Project are created from recyclable materials found around the community. Cardboard is the most popular material upcycled. The upcycled jewelry and other products are sold in the United States through MarketHaiti.com and home parties. When you purchase these items you are supporting families in Haiti. Instead of releasing their children to orphanages or for adoption these artisans are able to provide the basic needs, education, and create a stable family unit. You are keeping families together by supporting Apparent Project with a purchase.
